Description
Enhance your early years environment with the In, Under, Through Investigations Resource Collection 1-2yrs, a carefully curated set of open-ended, robust resources designed for repeated use by very young children. Perfectly sized for small hands, the collection encourages children to investigate how objects move, fit, and pass in, out, under, and through spaces.
The resources support grasping, holding, releasing and pulling with control, helping children develop hand strength, hand–eye coordination, and two-handed manipulation. Activities such as posting shapes, threading rings, pulling zip toys and rolling balls encourage purposeful movement and early physical control through repeated, schematic play.
Children explore cause and effect as they discover what happens when objects are pushed through openings, pulled out, rolled away, or placed onto holders. Trial and repetition support early problem-solving and persistence, helping children experience success and build confidence.
Pulling, pushing, rolling and threading resources support children to consider movement and resistance. Use long, open cardboard boxes for children to roll the soft balls through, providing opportunities to observe objects disappearing and reappearing again. This will develop children’s understanding of space, direction, and movement.
The resources are colourful to support colour recognition, providing opportunities to develop children’s language.
Adults can further support learning by describing actions, responding to gestures, and modelling simple words such as “in”, “out”, “under” and “through”, promoting shared attention and early communication. The open-ended nature of the resources allows children to explore at their own pace, supporting concentration, confidence and enjoyment.
Children can extend their investigations by exploring other Early Excellence 1–2yrs resources, such as the Water Play Collection 1-2yrs, Dry Sand Collection 1-2yrs, or Small World Collection 1-2yrs. Pairing these areas allows children to experiment with different materials, textures, and movements, deepening their understanding of cause and effect, movement across the early years environment.
